The Missions Committee at Jamieson leads the mission efforts of the church. Projects include Water for the Oppressed, the Heifer Project and collecting UMCOR kits for conference.
Summer brings lots of fresh vegetables and the Gleaming Network works with local farmers to allow volunteers to glean the vegetables after the farmer has completed his basic harvest. Thousands of pounds of corn, tomatoes, beans and other vegetables are left in the field ready to be gleaned and then the same day distributed all over the area to needy people and food banks. YOU can become part of this ministry by volunteering a few hours at a time to gather the harvest. To sign up for this ministry, please call the church office (374-8050) and each time an event is scheduled you will be contacted by e-mail (if possible). Our area would be working at the Hudson/Reese farm North of South Boston on US-360. For more information, please call the church office.
On February 17, 2008, we were privileged to have with us Claude and Leslie Bing, founders of the non-profit organization “Water For The Oppressed – Africa”. They spoke about their newly formed mission to Africa to drill and repair wells in Zambia, Africa. A mission to bring wells that will provide a safe and adequate water supply to many communities in that area.
Prior to starting this mission, Claude had been on several mission trips in Africa and saw first hand the desperate situations with inadequate water. In 2006, Claude and Leslie were called by God to take their well drilling skills to Africa. Selling their home and business and raising additional funds to buy and send trucks and equipment to Africa, they are now prepared to start serious drilling this year.
Jamieson Memorial began support to the Bings in April 2007, providing assistance with their living expenses through 2008. Starting this year we plan to become an even bigger part of this exciting adventure, drilling and repairing wells, and getting to know more about Zambia.

Every day lives around the world are touched by the gifts you give to the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
Immediately after the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, Jamieson began support of UMCOR with monetary contributions. The United Methodist Women assembled 75 health kits which were sent directly to Haiti through UMCOR.
On August 12, 2008 45 flood buckets, filled with all types of cleaning supplies, were delivered to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Center in Goldsboro, N.C. This is a fully operational UMCOR warehouse and distribution center and these buckets will be delivered as needed somewhere in the US. Thank you for your financial support in helping to make these buckets available to people in need.
Jamieson members donated items for 16 layette kits, 16 sewing kits, and 22 health kits. These kits and extra items were taken to Conference in June.
A United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) trip to Ridgeville, SC to help the Edisto Indians will be held May 2-8. Applications, which must be completed by March 31, are available at the Church Office. Gary Lied and Ollie Wright will be leading the team.
Each holiday season Jamieson participates in the Heifer Project.
We are a Global Mission Partner and in a Covenant relationship with Clara Biswas in Cambodia and Gail Strickler & Mary Ward with the Roanoke Community Outreach Program.
