Members of Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church are strong supporters of several programs at Clarksville Elementary School.
Chess Club is held during the school year at Clarksville Elementary in the school cafeteria from 3:00 to 3:45. Adult volunteers willing to help with this club should contact Walt or the church office for more information.
The Lunch Buddy Program at Clarksville Elementary School is designed to link caring and committed persons from the community with students who might benefit from spending time with an additional positive role model. The purpose of the program is to help selected students improve their self-esteem, self-confidence, communication skills, academic performance, classroom behavior, attitude towards school, and attendance. In addition, students are provided opportunities to increase their awareness of various careers. At this time, sharing lunch with the students is the primary focus of this program. It is our hope that the program may evolve to include other activities. It is also our hope that the program will not only benefit the children but the adults as well.
General Guidelines:
• Spend a minimum of two lunch periods a month with a student.
• Purchase lunch in the cafeteria or brown bag (adult lunch only)
• Use this time to show interest in and offer support of the child’s school life.
• Clear with the school counselor any involvement with the student other than having lunch. Also, notify the school counselor if unable to see the buddy on the assigned day.
• Respect the confidentiality of the student at all times and advise only the counselor or principal of any concerns which may arise.
• Students are selected by their teachers according to specific criteria, for participation in the program.
