Our Pastor

Reverend Walter W. Westbrook

Rev. WestbrookBorn in Chattanooga, TN, Walt has lived in eight states. However, since being ordained a minister in the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1980, he's lived in Virginia.

Walt received his B.A. in Music History and Theory from Emory and Henry College (Emory, VA) in 1977. Then he headed up to Drew Theological School in Madison, NJ to work on a Master of Divinity degree, which he received in 1980.

Walt has been married to Betty since 1978. She has a Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and has worked in a variety of situations as a case worker and counselor. They have a daughter, Cassie, who recently graduated from VCU.

In addition to his duties as pastor at Jamieson (his fourth congregation), Walt also volunteers weekly as a Lunch Buddy at Clarksville Elementary School, plays guitar and sings for residents at Meadowview Terrace Nursing Home monthly, and is an active participant in the Clarksville Ministers' Association.

An important calling that Walt has answered in 2005 is prison ministry. Every month he preaches to inmates at Mecklenburg Correctional Center in Boydton, VA. Two Saturday evenings each month he joins with inmates at Brunswick Correctional Center in Lawrenceville, VA for Centering Prayer. In addition to Walt's personal efforts, the United Methodist Men of Jamieson have donated Bibles to two prisons and the county jail, and the church is participating in Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree program at Christmas.
