Monday, September 15 - New DISCIPLE Bible Study Begins
It’s been a long time since we’ve had DISCIPLE Bible Study at Jamieson.
Since our last experience, they have added new, shorter studies.
So, instead of a 32-week commitment of 2 ½ hour sessions, we are going
to offer Invitation to the New Testament, an eight-week course with
60-90 minute sessions. There will still be the same in-depth study of
scripture, just in a more manageable format. This will be perfect for
people who want to begin an in-depth study of the Bible, as well as for
people who have had some experience with DISCIPLE or other such studies.
The program will begin on Monday, September 15. I’ll offer a class at
10:00 a.m. and a second, identical class at 7:00 p.m. The cost, payable
at our first class session, will be $10. Please call the office at
374-8050 or sign up during worship.
Sunday,
September 14 - Sunday School Kick-off
Sunday School Kick-off will be held on September 14, 2008 from 10:00
a.m.to10:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Come see what the
Education Committee has in store for the upcoming year, have your BP
checked, and enjoy food and fellowship. This will be held in place
of regular Sunday School classes on the 14th.

Computer Outreach Ministry
Jamieson is partnering with Hargrove Chapel United
Methodist Church in Townsville, NC, to provide volunteers for their computer
outreach ministry. Hargrove Chapel is a small, African American church which
has received a Duke Endowment grant to reach out to the rural, economically
depressed area of Vance County by providing a computer lab with basic
instruction and guidance. The Mission Committee is recruiting volunteers
with basic computer knowledge to devote one three-hour period of time each
month, driving about 15-20 miles, to this mission opportunity. We also
anticipate other opportunities to partner with Hargrove Chapel in the
future. Contact Linda Pulliam for details, 919-603-0317 or lgpulliam@touchnc.net
Wednesday, March 12 -
Palm Sunday and Beyond
Community Palm Sunday Service. Sunday, March
16 at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Fine Arts Center, followed by a brisk walk
to the Presbyterian church, where we'll find refreshments. For the very
first time there will be two guitarists, Rev. Walt Westbrook and Rev. Greg
Randall from Clarksville Baptist. This service replaces the normal 9:00
a.m. service at Jamieson. So, come on out. It's always a lot of fun.
The Episcopalians invite us to share their pancakes at 7:00 a.m. to help
energize us for the walk up Virginia Ave.
Living the Green Life.
Join the UMW in Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. as we
explore how to “live green” in our church, our home and our community. Hear
how our actions affect the health of our planet and what actions we can take
to protect Mother Earth. Small steps can make a big difference and every
little bit helps in our efforts to “live green.” Please join us for this
educational session. Sign up sheet will be available. Open to everyone in
the church and community.
Maundy Thursday Service with Holy Communion.
Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. We celebrate the Last Supper.
Good Friday Service. Friday, March 21 at
7:00 p.m. Profoundly spiritual. Perfect preparation for Easter (there IS no
Easter without Good Friday).
Easter Carnival. On Saturday, March
22, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Clarksville Presbyterian Church
the Jamieson Memorial United Methodist and Clarksville Presbyterian Youth
Group (JUMPY) will hold its annual Easter Carnival at Clarksville
Presbyterian Church. Activities include games and crafts, egg hunt and
pictures with the Easter Bunny. All children are invited to attend.
Easter Sunday Community Sunrise Service.
Sunday, March 23 at 7:30 a.m. This is a brand new service at the
amphitheater at Occoneechee State Park. Entrance to the park will be free.
Just enter the park and take a left. You can't miss it. Then we'll have our
regularly scheduled 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services.
Authentic Outreach Sign Up Continues.
Course will run nine sessions with very little homework. We'll learn how to
listen to people who do not believe, how to pray for them, and how to
understand what we believe and how to explain it. Almost 20 people have
signed up at $25 per person, so you know it must be a good idea. If you
don't get a chance to sign up by this Sunday, call the office before we
order the books. See March 10 for details.
Wednesday, March 12 -
Fifty attend Fellowship Dinner
Fifty people gathered in the Fellowship Hall last
night for the monthly Fellowship Dinner. They enjoyed a delicious meal
prepared by John and Brenda Cahoon, and enjoyed the Irish tunes of Rev. Walt
Westbrook. The food was excellent and it was great to have Mac Crowder
and his nieces join the festivities!
Monday, March 10 -
Authentic Outreach Training Courses
Rev. Walt Westbrook will lead two Authentic
Outreach Training Courses. Classes will be held in the Fellowship
Hall at Jamieson on Tuesdays, March 25 through May 27. The morning
class will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. The evening class from
7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Authentic Outreach course teaches a new
perspective and a new style of communicating God’s truth to a changing
world. The course inspires and equips believers in Jesus Christ to share
their faith with gentleness and respect. You will learn to share the hope
you have through Christ in a way that fits your specific communication style
and your community.

student. Join us for a special time of spiritual renewal and adventure!
Wednesday, March 5 -
Crossties to Perform at Jamieson
Crossties will perform at Jamieson in the Sanctuary
Saturday April 12th. at 7:00pm. Crossties started as a four-part
gospel group in 1993, singing at their Church Mt. Sylvan United Methodist
Church. Since then they have slowly added and lost members, but consistently
have eight men singing four parts; a pianist; drummer and sometimes a string
bass player. They sing around the state of North Carolina (and now Virginia
too) at churches, banquets, reunions, and wherever people are willing to
listen. Their music spans southern gospel, hymns, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s popular
music and some Barbershop. They are all members of the same church and have
no formal music training. The performance is open to the public. There
is no charge but a "love offering" will be accepted.
